PROJECT DETAILSName of Project: Gomoza Ward Rural Community Electrification
Location: Gomoza Ward High & Primary School Project PreambleSibambene High School and Gomoza Primary School are located in Gomoza Ward just nearby a big Roman Catholic Church and home of Priests. The ward is not only having two schools, but there are four. The two have been serviced since 2005 and what is lacking is connection of electricity supply to the Administration Block, Class Rooms and Teachers Cottages. The school hoped to be connected in the same year of servicing but this was not done and the school has the following classes: - Form one X two, Form two, Form Three, Form Four, Lower Form and Upper Form. It has received assistance from the government of ten (10) computers but there are not used due to lack of electricity within the school. The high school is supposed to have more than eighteen teachers but due to lack of electricity supply, there are less than ten currently. A number of subjects which need electricity supply are not done and a teacher who is specialising in chemistry will do languages. This has caused too many transfers from the school. The supply of electricity to this school will even curb the whole community to do some computer studies and evening lessons, as there are located right at the centre of the ward. The two schools have land line telephones. a) Sibambene High School – +263 898 288 Sibambene High School has the following rooms to be assisted:- a) Administrative Block - 15 Gomoza Primary School has the following rooms to be assisted:- a) Heads Office – 2 PROJECT MAIN OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the project shall be to:- a) Facilitate the promotion of the living standards of the community to be literate. ACHIEVEMENTS BY THE SCHOOLUnder these had conditions, the schools have maintained their good results for the past years. They are now foreseeing a drop down due to high transport costs but they are maintaining the standards required. Even if it is difficult to teach some scientific subjects which require practical sessions, they are managing to come up with such subjects at “O” Level. CHALLENGESThe schools are facing challenges of electricity supply to carry out computer studies. The staff members are facing challenges of transport costs to town as they are getting less than a quarter of what transport is charging. This causes too much of a high turnover of staff as they cannot manage buy food for themselves. All the money will be used in transport. Also the scientific apparatus are in short supply at the high school. PROJECT JUSTIFICATIONOnce the schools are connected, the pupils, staff members and the community at large will benefit from the project in many forms. The schools are located right at the centre of the ward of Gomoza and there is bound to be boom in the development within. There are quite a number of project users within the project’s catchment area. This in turn will woe businesses within to connect electricity to their shops and work strongly. The project will answer the call by government for locals to utilise Rural Electrification Programmes. MANAGEMENT AND ORGANISATIONManagement The two schools have elected school Development Committees who are running the day to day affairs of the operations smoothly. They work together the Staff Administration of the school. The community is also involved as they hold monthly meetings every time. ORGANISATION STRUCTURE
